Chris Capps was born in 1967, in Dothan, Alabama. He attended college at Troy State University where he graduated cum laude with a B.S., in Criminal Justice Administration. After college he earned a Juris Doctor Degree in December of 1993, from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama. Chris was admitted to the Alabama State Bar in April of 1994. While attending law school Chris was employed as the Chief Juvenile Court Officer for Henry County, Alabama, where he was recognized for his work with juvenile offenders. After being admitted to the Alabama State Bar, Chris hung his shingle and began his law practice on Troy Street in downtown Dothan in May of 1994. In 2003, Chris opened his current law firm Capps & Associates, P.C., on South Oates Street. Chris has enjoyed practicing with many attorneys over the years and has especially enjoyed mentoring young attorneys in the practice of law.
Since 2006, Chris has served as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Headland, Alabama, where he presides over the Municipal Court on the first Thursday of each month. Being a part-time judge has given me a different perspective on many different legal issues. As a defense attorney, we tend to see things from our client's point of view. Sitting on the bench gives me the opportunity to see the issues from multiple angles.
Trial Experience: Chris has tried hundreds of cases since 1994, and has enjoyed success in the courtroom. In the criminal arena Chris has represented people charged with Capital Murder all the way down to simple speeding. In Divorce cases Chris has represented everyone from the store cashier to the doctor and attorney in their domestic relations issues. “I try to bring a common sense approach to things” is a motto Chris uses in the representation of his clients.
